About Us

We have always loved the Japanese dog breeds.  We started with an Akita from Okinawa, Japan.  She was a beautiful dog and she was our entire world!  We lost her after 8 years.  Both my husband, Bill, and I were devastated.

After she was gone, we saw our first Shiba Inu in the late 90’s.  My husband and I were living in Las Vegas.  It was a cream Shiba Inu and at the time, we thought it was an Akita puppy.  It was love at first sight where both of us had fallen in love with the breed.

Shortly after our first encounter, my husband surprised me with our first Shiba Inu, Miko.  We did not get from a reputable breeder and Miko had a lot of health issues.  We spent the next couple of years researching and learning more about the breed and its Japanese standards.

We then acquired our second Shiba from a reputable breeder, Kepano. He was a black and tan and we started conformation with him.  In 2015, Kepano obtained his championship and the rest was history.

In 2023, our proudest moment, was with our dog Indiana aka “Indy”.  He was ranked as number 2 Shiba Inu in North America and was handled by Erin Criqui.  He obtained Best In Show (BIS), Best In Specialty Sweepstakes (BISS), Best In Show Owner Handler (BISOH) and his Grand Championship Title.

What we learned from our first Shiba is we wanted to strive to breed for health and temperament following the Shiba Inu Standard. Ensuring genetic health testing, as well as, OFA / CERF testing for paellas, eyes and hips. We make every effort to make Moonlight Shibas tohave strong lineage of healthy and great quality dogs.

To my dear friend, Ann Gorman,

Thank you for mentoring and teaching me what is means to be a great breeder. The lessons I have learned from your kind heart will live with Moonlight Shibas. You were my Angel and I was fortunate enough for you to touch my heart.
